Lorraine Bracco Biography

Lorraine Bracco, a New Yorker who has a lively voice, made her debut in France as models. She went on to become an actress in television and film. After starring alongside her future husband Harvey Keitel in the Italian crime-drama "Camorra" (1986), Bracco made her U.S. feature debut in Ridley Scott's modern noir "Someone to Watch Over Me" (1987). The following year, she delivered an unforgettable supporting role in Martin Scorsese's classic mob drama "Goodfellas" (1990), with Ray Liotta as the lead. The actress then appeared alongside Sean Connery in the jungle-adventure, "Medicine Man" (1992) which was followed by a turn as Elijah Wood's mom in the fantasy-drama "Radio Flyer" (1992). Bracco then played the devastated mother of troubled teen Tom Carroll (Leonardo DiCaprio) in the gritty biopic "The Basketball Diaries" (1995) before to being cast in the most indelible character of her career, as psychiatrist Dr. Jennifer Melfi on the revolutionary crime-family drama "The Sopranos" (HBO, 1999-2007). Following her highly acclaimed stint on the beloved show, she was offered another regular cast role in the police procedural "Rizzoli & Isles" (TNT from 2010 to 2016) as the mother of Detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon). Bracco performed a range of intricate and insightful roles as Bracco, demonstrating a range that was initially stifled by her Brooklyn accent and gorgeous appearance.
